It's taken me longer than I expected to get back into my routines after coming back from vacation. Life has felt just a little off and work has been a roller coaster too. So it was nice to come home and pick up my pen to a familiar theme each evening.
The first page is my cat, Kisa. The rest are random images I found. Cats are an interesting subject with endlessly interesting poses. It was nice to get back into the woods this weekend. I took a long walk and it was clear that the seasons are changing. Hanging somewhere between summer and fall. We've had rain and cooler temperatures and some trees are dropping their leaves early. The result? Mushrooms! The woods were full of them.
Last week I took some time to go back to the ocean. It had been too long since I played in the salt water and listened to the sound of the waves breaking on shore. I've enjoyed our lakes here, but it's not the same. I was fortunate to get a very warm week so late in the season. The water was warm and so was the sun. Perfect! One day even had a storm roll in. I'm not sure my photos do it justice though. It's hard to capture the feeling of it - the clouds were large and crept in closer and closer, lower and lower, the wind blew hard and the sky and beach turned dark. Rain and lightening too. The next morning was a chance to walk the beach looking at what was washed ashore by the storm. I hope it won't be so long till I get back again. Textures of the Sea Dolphins“The universe is created for motion.” ― Khalid Masood I'm not sure what had me thinking of motion this week. Maybe it was the dashing about getting ready for my upcoming vacation or maybe the back and forth of the change of seasons. Last week was cool, this week hot, but it's the last of the hot weather for us here in the north.
Whatever the reason I hope you enjoy the sketches of things in motion. It was a cool week. The first of many to come. It started out dark and rainy but ended sunny and warmer. The seasons are starting their slow change again. I took some time to visit the arboretum again. The ground was covered with these beautiful turkey feathers. The flock wasn't far away. Summer also showed off some interesting fruit. For the first time I can remember, I'm sorry to see summer go. I got out more this year. Walking in the woods, swimming in the lakes. Winter? I'll put that off for a while yet. Time to enjoy the oncoming fall.
I've recently come across the work of artist Dianne Bersea. Her colors and shapes are beautiful. Graphic but soft. Please enjoy a look at a few of her pieces. Visit her website at: http://www.islemuse.com/Dianne_Bersea_-_My_Story.html "I love spending hours in quiet communion with nature; drawing watercolor sketching, becoming attuned to the smallest sound or movement. I enjoy making quick sketches to catch a cloud or special light, sitting so quietly that small animals and birds forget I'm there. In the finished work that happens in my studio, there is a fine balance between intuition and technical manipulation..., and above all a celebration.." ~ Dianne Bersea
A few drawings of things I stumbled across this week. I had a lot of fun working with line drawings this week. Recently I've been looking skyward. We have such beautiful blue skies in the summer here. The sky and clouds inspired a few sketches this week. Clouds suit my mood just fine. ~Marie Lu, Champion I run like I have cirrus clouds for legs and rainbow knees. What is life, if not a marathon of love?
~Jarod Kintz, Love quotes for the ages. And the ageless sages. Nature is a mutable cloud which is always and never the same. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson Dream’s elixir veered between light and clouds to save the blue.. ~Munia Khan ...my dreams are tangled in images of stars and clouds and firelight - we go camping at night - it's my lucid dream of being with you...
