Here are some of my drawings mixed with great pieces by Matisse, Picasso, Cocteau and others.
I don't know exactly why, but I love line drawings. Power and grace at the same time. They tell a story simply and there is something about letting the pen glide across the page, dipping and curling without thinking. No need to worry about capturing the exactness of a figure, just catch the feeling and let your imagination fill in the details.
Here are some of my drawings mixed with great pieces by Matisse, Picasso, Cocteau and others. My parents are moving and have been sorting through boxes they've stored in my basement. One thing we found was my grandmother's collection of First Day Issue stamps. Three binders full. None of us knew what to do with them or if they have any value. So I turned to my good friend the Internet for a little research.
While it seems the collection may have little dollar value, the stamps themselves were a bit of surprise. I expected the typical binder with rows of little postage stamps attached to each page in rows. The kind I had when I was a girl. Instead I found some examples of beautiful colorful art in an unexpected place. I've found the complexity of hair and especially dreadlocks an interesting subject recently. The second image intrigued me the most. Something about the innocent look of the model's face against the frenetic hairstyle. I was able to spend some time on both of these, working late in the evening when I am most productive. I hope to carve out some more time in the evenings, if I can work out that balance between art and my day job.
Another busy month. Just no time for consistent posts. But here's an idea of some things I've worked on in October.
