It's been a little while since I posted. I've been working on some paintings for the new display at Kesslers Diamonds. Here is a preview of the show. Please stop by if you are in town. The show will be up through the new year.
I had some time off work and decided to try my hand at painting water. My first attempt however was far from successful. I ended up with a series of colors with no form. I realized how challenging water really is. To see the whole and the details at the same time. It's transparent and reflective. Fluid and dense. Constantly in motion with broken patterns. Water will take a lot more study.
I've dug up every spare canvas I could find to start making studies and sketches. Visiting creeks, streams and lakes to watch the water and hopefully learn to understand what I see. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Here are some recent photos I've taken (of water). I wanted to share the news with you...I've got an exhibit of some of my paintings at Kesslers Diamonds on Junction Road. They'll be there for the next 3 months. I hope you'll be able to stop by and take a look at my work and the other artists showing there.
Kesslers Diamonds 341 Junction Road Madison, WI 53717 Take a look here or on Etsy if you can't make it to the show. It's been a mild winter this year and we just got our first snow. Still seeing the ground and roofs blanketed in white, and the air so cold, makes me long for spring.
Flowers are my favorite subjects to paint. SK is my niece and my favorite young artist. The works in her gallery are some of her earliest forays into the world of art. She says "I've known I was an artist since I was 2 years old...In art there are no rules; it's fun, exciting and always beautiful."
Please help me to encourage this young talent. Please visit her gallery on this site. |
